Ontario to Mandate ‘Right to Disconnect’ Policies, Among Other Changes

The Ontario Government has introduced the Working for Workers Act, 2021 which, if passed, will, among other things:

  • ban non-compete agreements
  • require recruiters and temporary help agencies to be licensed
  • mandate that certain employers implement “right to disconnect” policies
  • help internationally-trained immigrants practice their profession or trade
  • require business owners to allow delivery workers to use a company’s washroom if they are delivering or picking up items
  • allow surpluses in the Workplace Safety and Insurance Board’s (WSIB) Insurance Fund to be distributed over certain levels to businesses.
